Purpose:
The Sports Information Coordinator assists in the promotion of Athletics and Recreation and its activities through communications, sport information, social media and media relations. Under the supervision of the Manager, Marketing and Communications, the duties of the position include: sport information services, communications, and media relations. The role is responsible for preparing content and editing for print/collateral materials, reports, media and electronic communications, social media posts, writing/editing of general departmental communications, coordination, scripting and providing content for media and special events such as awards banquets, fundraising events, etc. Under the direction of the Manager, Marketing and Communications, the Coordinator will provide content for the development and lead the execution of annual media and communications plan for Varsity Athletics in alignment with the Athletics and Recreation (AandR) department's overall marketing and communications plan. and in accordance with OUA and USPORT policies and standards of practice. This position requires commitment and adherence to the values and principles of AandR as expressed in the mandate of the department

Education:
College diploma in Business or Communication or an equivalent of 2 years recent experience (defined as within the last three years) working at York University and performing the same or similar tasks. This education equivalency is in addition to the minimum required years of experience listed below.

Experience:
3 years' related experience in communications including a proven track record dealing with governing bodies and media in a sports environment. General understanding of a wide range of sports required

Ability to obtain and provide accurate information clearly and concisely
Public relations skills, and ability to deal courteously and effectively with employees, faculty, the media, alumni and the public at all levels
Organizational skills
Initiative
Ability to interpret and apply sports policies and procedures (OUA, U SPORTS).
Effective communication including editorial skills
Working accurately and effectively under pressure of high volume and frequent deadlines
Good presentation skills
Effective interpersonal skills, including dealing calmly, courteously and effectively with people
Ability to work independently, set priorities and meet deadlines
Ability to exercise initiative and sound judgement. Technical
Intermediate level Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint for preparing and amending documents, etc.
Intermediate level Desktop Publishing skills for preparing articles, newsletters, social media, etc.
Familiarity with internet, e-mail, social media, and content management web systems

Please note: This position requires the candidate to produce a verification of degree(s), credentials(s), or equivalencies from accredited institutions and/or international equivalents at the time of interview. Hours of work: 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday to Friday, with occasional evenings and weekends required.Summer: same as aboveRequests to work overtime may occur during peak periodsPeak periods for this position: January to March, mid-August to NovemberHours during peak periods: Variable based on event scheduleVacation restriction: during peak periods
