Purpose:

With a commitment to sustainability, equity, diversity and inclusion, Facilities Services works with campus partners to provide exceptional customer service and satisfaction in alignment with the University's core values.Grounds Keeper is responsible for the general maintenance and upkeep of the outdoor grounds of the York University campuses.
Education:
High School Diploma. The applicant must have a Pesticide Technician Certificate or enroll in an MOE approved Pesticide Technician Program and successfully complete the same within a 60 day *trial/probationary period. The training will be provided by the University at no expense to the incumbent.
Experience:
Minimum of 2 years' recent grounds care and maintenance experience, including some knowledge of the maintenance requirements of plant materials OR equivalent combination of experience and academic training.
Skills:
Ability to shovel (snow, dirt) and lift heavy equipment and materials
Demonstrated ability to lift and move heavy objects
Demonstrated ability to work independently
Ability to work as a team member
Must be able to take direction
Must be able to manage time and priorities
Addresses customer concerns in a positive manner and takes prompt corrective action when necessary
Maintains a professional manner with all customers and employees

Additional Notes:
Knowledge of maintenance requirements of plant materials. Applicant for this position must satisfactorily complete a practical assessment pertaining to basic knowledge in grounds keeping.
