Purpose:
Reporting to the Director, Operational Excellence and Institutional Applications, the Application Quality Assurance Specialist plans, designs, constructs, and executes, tests of distributed computing systems across York University, with a view to providing comprehensive reports to application owners regarding functional, performance, and security characteristics. Serving as an expert technical resource and consultant, the Application QA Specialist initiates and leads projects that focus on automating manual testing processes.
Education:
University degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or Mathematics, or an equivalent of 4 years recent experience (defined as within the last five years) working at York University and performing the same or similar tasks. This education equivalency is in addition to the experiential requirements outlined below. Extensive and formal training/specialization in software quality assurance and testing theory and methods such as College level Quality Assurance Programs, ISTQB related courses or similar.
Experience:
5 years experience developing and executing quality assurance and test plans for the development and testing of a variety of large complex systems. This includes: making realistic assessments of the systems, determining requirements and developing plans based on specific requirements, keeping in mind financial and human resource limitations, and the technical complexity of the production systems.

Effective implementation skills in application and web servers (setting up servers to run these programs).
Ability to understand and predict an application's performance characteristics based on an examination of its architecture and load testing results.
Extensive theoretical and practical knowledge of: software operating and database systems, computer networks, distributed computing, programming, distributed systems security and enterprise systems.
