Purpose:
The Laboratory Animal Attendant role provides routine husbandry care for a variety of animal species in the Vivaria, in accordance to standardized processes and procedures. The role uses their knowledge and practical skills to provide a high standard of care to the animals.

Education:
High School Diploma. Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) or Research Lab Animal Technician (RLAT) certificate an asset.

Experience:
Two years of hands-on animal care experience in a research or teaching environment.

Skills:
- Ability to complete basic animal nursing care (i.e., wound care, pill administration, SC, IP and IM injections) and complete the appropriate documentation. - Effective communication skills to communicate procedures and processes to Vivaria users. - Ability to observe and assess health status in rodents, rabbits, amphibians, and non-human primates. Record symptoms, reactions, and progress.- Ability to maintain quality, safety and/or infection control standards. - Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures. - Ability to safely use cleaning equipment and supplies. - Knowledge of the use and maintenance of laboratory facilities and/or equipment. - Knowledge of animal husbandry requirements, methods, and techniques. - Knowledge of sterile procedures. - Ability to establish and/or maintain veterinary/animal husbandry records.- Ability to juggle multiple priorities and remain calm under high pressure.- Ability to utilize Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook at moderate proficiency.

Additional Notes:
Hours of work: Mondays to Fridays, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. Weekend work required based on operational needs.
